Still Marching Up and Down That Street

Patty Griffin has come to mind quite a few times this week, although I am not quite sure why. The weather is getting colder, and I know as a Mainer Patty knows something about winter. When I saw her play in Bozeman, Montana, she said she felt at home anyplace people knew what moose were all about.  Patty would feel at home in Northern Minnesota then.  And I have been hiking in the cold. Yeah, probably the time of year.

I never quite knew what to think of Patty Griffin’s song “Chief”. I like the tune, and I love her poetic lyrics. I was quite surprised when I saw the video on CMT (back when they showed country music and/or music videos). I just didn’t think it was quite a “politically correct” commentary on Native Americans and/or veterans.  That’s a good thing, because like most of Patty’s music you have to think about it to go beyond first impressions.

I’ve been hiking, yes, and tho this video is set in warm weather, some days I too feel like tuning out the world and walking all day until my feet turn black.

Anyway, it’s a great Americana song and a nice video.

Patty is making headlines with her duet with Dierks Bently on “Beautiful World.”  Dierks had a free-view on CMT (I guess a video does still sneak onto CMT these days, or at least on their website) thru yesterday, or today.

CMT One Country has joined forces with multiplatinum recording artist Dierks Bentley to bring his annual Miles & Music for Kids presented by Nationwide Insurance fundraiser nationwide to benefit Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. Events will take place in Nashville, Phoenix, Seattle, Atlanta, Dallas and Chicago in 2009 and 2010.

Our local Kiwanis Club is a big booster of Children’s Miracle Network.  Check it out while you can.
