Rainy Days and Mondays

Not a rainy day here, but it is a Monday the whole world over.  this version of the Karen Carpenter song Rainy Days and Mondays comes to us from Australia.  G’day, down under.

I’m not a fan of pop music.  I shouldn’t like the 1970s flower children, “light, airy melodies” of the Carpenters.  Perhaps it is the “meticulously crafted, clean arrangements” that draw me into this particular guilty pleasure.

Talkin’ to myself and feelin’ old
Sometimes I’d like to quit
Nothing ever seems to fit
Hangin’ around
Nothing to do but frown
Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.

I see that somebody has tagged the Carpenters on Last.fm as “oldies”. Oldies? That’s big band, Elvis even, stuff my Parents listen to. What do these kids today know about Oldies music….

This was one of my first 45s. It was new then, so how old can it be?
